Vintage French Bird Traps

I get a kick out of these vintage french bird traps, which were legal at one time.

1st photo shows traps in the set position with a quarter for size reference.
2nd photo is how they would be set with bread, seeds, or fruit to attract birds.
3rd photo is how they would catch and hold birds.

Why would the French want to catch birds? The little colorful ones might be kept for pets, but the majority were eaten. Funny to think of the politically correct French eating small birds. Lol
